Bone Subtraction and Automated Central Path Finding

John Haller, PhD

In addition to 3D rendering of MRI and CT images that is widely available, two new tools have recently been added to the arsenal of medical image processing - bone subtraction and automated central path finding. Subtracting bones from CT angiograms, for example, can be used to better visualize blood vessels in the head or elsewhere in the body. The central path finding algorithm enables radiologists to the measure the length and diameter of the abdominal aorta, as well as aneurysms along the path of the aorta.
