Radiology Food Drive Brings in 2 Tons of Food for Crisis Center

The University of Iowa Department of Radiology brought in more than two tons of food and over $500 in cash donations for the Crisis Center in Iowa City during its annual food drive.

Over the past five years Radiology has sponsored the drive as a part of National Radiologic Technology Week. This year the department decided to introduce a little friendly competition by dividing the department into 11 teams to see who could bring in the most food. The winning team would be rewarded with a pizza party. Every day staff were sent charts mapping each team's progress. The goal was to collect 700 pounds of food, but the department

exceeded that goal by bringing in 4,643 pounds of food. The interventional radiology team (pictured top) won the competition by donating almost a ton of food.

In addition to maintaining a food bank, the Crisis Center of Iowa City provides emergency assistance, crisis and suicide intervention, as well as counseling and referral.
