"This
award further validates our focus on providing the highest
quality medical information from University of Iowa faculty
to health care providers and patients for the purpose
of improving patients' care, outcomes and lives,"
said Michael D'Alessandro, M.D., UI associate professor
of radiology and director of the Virtual Hospital.
First
published on the World Wide Web in 1993, the Virtual Hospital
was intended to provide a convenient way for UI faculty
to teach medical students, residents and practicing physicians.
Since its initial publication, the Virtual Hospital has
expanded to include educational information for patients
and families.
The
mission of the site is "to make the Internet a useful
medical reference and health promotion tool for health
care providers and patients."
For
more than five years, MD NetGuide has been awarding "Netties"
in order to recognize those sites that provide a fast,
reliable, easy and intuitive connection to Internet information
on advances in medicine and health care. For more information
